Marketing team places third in AMA International Case Competition
Loyola’s College of Business student marketing team placed third in the 2005-2006 American Marketing Association International Case Competition. This marks the fifth consecutive year Loyola’s team has reached the finals. The students overcame great obstacles in order to compete this year. Displaced from Loyola during the fall semester, each of the five team members was studying at a different university. Nonetheless, they collaborated via email to develop their marketing plan and prepare for the competition. Eight other teams reached the finals.
Nationally Ranked Advertising Team
Last year Loyola’s advertising team placed third in the National 2005 American Advertising Federation Student Advertising competition. Before advancing to finals the advertising team won first place in its district competition in April, marking the sixth time in 12 years that Loyola had placed number one. All competing schools produced an integrated marketing communications campaign for Yahoo! Inc., that was targeted at teens. Each team prepared a 32-page plans book and a 20-minute multimedia creative presentation. Loyola’s winning campaign was developed as part of a semester-long course in advanced advertising campaigns. Communications Chair Teri Henley and Communications Assistant Professor Debra Woodfork served as team advisers. When asked about her experience with Ad team, Lindsey Southall said, “Being a member of Ad team has been a great experience for me. I feel that I have had a taste of the real world of advertising and know that the success of our team will help me stand out from the crowd when applying for jobs.”
Bateman Team Places Second in National Competition
Loyola’s Bateman Team placed second in the 2006 Public Relations Student Society of America’s (PRSSA) national competition. Loyola Bateman teams have been in the top five every year since 1996. This year’s competition offered two categories; Habitat for Humanity International or teams could choose their local affiliates. The Loyola Bateman team presented their “Get Back in the Habit” campaign for the New Orleans Affiliate for Habitat for Humanity. The team competed against four other universities: University of South Carolina, first place; University of Maryland, third place; Lee University, fourth place; and Illinois State University, fifth place. Fifty-nine universities competed in the local affiliate track.
Moot Court Team
The College of Law Moot Court Team is among the best in the world. In April 2005, the International Arbitration Commercial Law Moot Court Team, for the third year in a row, advanced to the final eight out of 128 schools competing. Law schools from 40 countries and 30 teams from the U.S. competed. Loyola’s law school was the only American school to advance to the final eight over other distinguished institutions including Harvard, Columbia, Cornell, and Tulane.
